Risen - Our Eternal Hope

This past Sunday at Highpoint AG, the atmosphere was one of profound gratitude and vibrant celebration. As we gathered to celebrate the "Risen King" this Easter, we were reminded that our faith isn't just a set of historical facts—it is a present, living power that changes the very "veins" of our daily lives.

A Worshipful Entry

The service began with a high-energy declaration of transformation. We sang of "dancing on the grave" that we once lived in and letting go of "old ways" because we have been born again. A highlight of the morning was our children leading us in a special song, reminding us that even in a broken world where "shadows deepen," there is a "new creation coming" because Jesus is worthy of all blessing and honor.

1. Born Again into a Living Hope (1 Peter 1:3)

Pastor David opened the message by grounding our identity in God's mercy.

  • Not by Effort, But by Mercy: Our new life isn't something we earned through performance or perfection; it is a gift freely given through the "great mercy" of God.

  • The Resurrection Foundation: This hope is "living" because it is anchored to a living Savior. Because the grave is empty, our hope is active and vibrant today.

2. Security Beyond This World (1 Peter 1:4-5)

We often worry about the "decay" of earthly things—our health, our finances, and our status. However, Pastor David highlighted these three things regarding our heavenly inheritance:

  • Imperishable: It cannot be destroyed by time or tragedy.

  • Undefiled: It is pure and untainted by the sin of this world.

  • Unfading: Its glory never grows dim. This inheritance is "kept in heaven for you," protected by God’s power through faith.

3. Purpose in the Fire (1 Peter 1:6-7)

Pastor David spoke candidly about the "various trials" we face. He shared that these struggles aren't meant to destroy us, but to:

  • Prove Genuineness: Just as fire refines gold, trials remove impurities and prove that our faith is real.

  • Eternal Value: A faith that has been tested and stayed true is worth far more than "gold that perishes".

4. Joy Unspeakable (1 Peter 1:8-9)

The message concluded with a powerful call to "inexpressible joy". Even though we do not see Jesus physically right now, our love for Him and our belief in Him fill us with a joy that the world cannot explain. This joy is a "present reality" that provides strength and purpose regardless of our circumstances.

Small Group Discussion Questions

  1. During worship, we sang "I've got resurrection in my veins." How does that specific image change how you view your physical or emotional exhaustion this week?

  2. Pastor David noted that it has "never been about performance". Why is it so easy to slip back into trying to earn God's favor?

  3. If hope was a person instead of a feeling, how would that change your prayer life? (See 1 Peter 1:3)

  4. What is one "perishable" thing you’ve been worried about lately?

  5. Looking back at a past "trial," what "impurities" did God remove from your character through that fire?

  6. 1 Peter 1:8 says, "Though you have not seen him, you love him." What are the specific ways you "see" Jesus working in your life today?

  7. Verse 6 mentions rejoicing even while being "grieved by various trials." How can we support one another in holding both joy and grief at the same time?

  8. Salvation was referred to as The Great Exchange: Christ died that we might live. How does this exchange encourage you to "lay down" something you’ve been holding onto?

  9. The children sang "Is He Worthy?". In your own words, why is Jesus worthy of your "all" this week?

  10. What is one practical way you can live out this "living hope" at your workplace or in your neighborhood this week?
