Instructions for Living

This past Sunday at Highpoint Assembly of God, we continued our current series,
"Building Strong Houses," by shifting our focus from the "Path" to the "Blueprint." If we want to build a life that stands the test of time, we must look to the ultimate manual for human existence: The Word of God.
The atmosphere in the sanctuary was heavy with a sense of surrender and desperation.
As we sang about laying down our "crowns"—our successes and our pride—we made
room for the Holy Spirit to move. We recognized that many of us walked in facing
"enemies" like anxiety and discouragement, and we found our refuge in the truth that
God is our Strong Tower.
Sunday Recap | May 3, 2026 | Pastor David Barnes
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." — 2 Timothy 3:16-17
1. The Divine Source: It is God-Breathed
Pastor David reminded us that the authority of the Bible isn't found in the men who
wrote it, but in the One who inspired it. Because Scripture is "God-breathed," it is an
extension of His divine character. This means the instructions we find within its pages
are perfect, infallible, and completely trustworthy for our Individual, Family, and
Church houses.
2. Profitable for Every Season
Why is the Word so vital? Because it is "profitable" for the structural integrity of our
souls. Pastor David highlighted four ways the Word works in us:
Teaching: It establishes what is true in a world of shifting opinions.
Reproof: It identifies the "errors" or cracks in our character that need attention.
Correction: It doesn't just point out the problem; it provides the restoration path
to get us back on track.
Training in Righteousness: It provides the daily repetitions needed to shape us
into the likeness of Christ.
3. The Ultimate Purpose: Fully Equipped
The end goal of spending time in the Word isn't just to gain knowledge; it’s to move from being spiritually "incomplete" to being fully equipped. God’s Word transforms us into prepared servants who are ready and empowered for every good work He has prepared for us.
