God is Calling

Are you running from a call or walking in purpose? This past Sunday at Highpoint AG Church, Pastor David shared a life-changing message: "God Is Calling."

Using the life of Jeremiah, we learned that God knew you, set you apart, and appointed you before you were even born. Whether you feel too young, too old, or simply not talented enough, God's command is the same: Stop the excuses and start speaking His truth. Our "House" is not just a building—it is a launching pad for the calling of God on your life. If you’ve been feeling a "tug" on your heart to do more for the Kingdom, we invite you to join us as we "build and plant" together in Royse City.

God is Calling

Continuing the series on the Individual, Family, and Church Houses, Pastor David transitioned into a deep look at the nature of a divine calling using Jeremiah 1:4-10 as the primary text.

1. The Nature of the Call

Pastor David defined "The Call" as hearing from God regarding a specific direction for one's life. He emphasized that this is not a human recruitment but a divine appointment rooted in God's eternal purpose.

  • Closeness: God said, "I knew you." The call starts with intimacy.

  • Chosen: God "sanctified" Jeremiah, meaning he was set apart for a specific purpose—a theme that echoed Pastor Ricky’s previous teaching on holiness.

  • Commissioned: God "appointed" him. The authority to minister comes from God alone.

2. Overcoming the Complaint

Just like many today, Jeremiah responded to God’s call with excuses. Pastor David identified the two primary "complaints" we use to avoid our calling:

  • Ability: "I cannot speak."

  • Age: "I am only a youth."

  • The message challenged the "House" to stop looking at personal limitations and start looking at the limitless God who qualifies the called.

3. The Command: Moving into Action

God’s response to Jeremiah’s excuses was a series of direct commands that Pastor David applied to the modern believer:

  • Stop Whining: God told Jeremiah not to say "I am only a youth."

  • No Fear: We are commanded to be courageous because God is with us to deliver us.

  • Speak the Truth: God touched Jeremiah’s mouth and put His words there. Our job is to speak what He commands, not our own opinions.

  • Do it Today: The call carries an urgency to "destroy and overthrow" the old and "build and plant" the new.

The service concluded with an altar call for those feeling a stir in their spirit toward God's calling. Pastor David prayed for the "House" in Royse City to be a place where people don't just sit in pews, but where they are "sent" into their purpose.

Small Group Discussion

Discussion Questions

  1. Pastor David defined "The Call" as hearing from God regarding a specific direction. Why is it important to remember that it is God who calls us into service, rather than us simply choosing what to do?

  2. Before Jeremiah was even formed in the womb, God knew him. How does the reality that God’s call is based on God's knowledge rather than your performance change how you feel about your purpose?

  3. To be sanctified means to be set apart for a specific use. In what areas of your "Individual House" (daily life, habits, or career) do you feel God has set you apart to be different from the world?

  4. Jeremiah’s first reaction was, "I cannot speak." When you feel God nudging you toward something, what is the "I cannot..." excuse that usually pops into your head first?

  5. Jeremiah felt he was too young; others may feel they are too old or "past their prime." How does God’s response in verse 7 ("Do not say, 'I am only a youth'") challenge the way we view our current stage of life?

  6. God told Jeremiah not to be afraid of the people he was sent to. Why is the "fear of man" (worrying about what others think) such a major obstacle to fulfilling a divine calling in a community like Royse City?

  7. In Jeremiah 1:9, God touched Jeremiah’s mouth to put His words there. How can we tell the difference between speaking our own opinions and speaking the "truth" that God has commanded us to say?

  8. Verse 10 mentions that part of the call is to "destroy and overthrow" before "building and planting." What is one "Egyptian" habit or mindset in your house that needs to be "plucked up" so that God can plant something new?

  9. Pastor David emphasized the urgency of the call. If you knew you couldn't fail because God was with you (verse 8), what is one step of obedience you would take today to step into your calling?

  10. Pastor David reminded us that Highpoint AG is a church for Royse City. How does your specific calling—whether it’s in ministry, business, education, or at home—contribute to the mission of our "Church House" to impact this city?

Weekly Challenge: Pick one of the "complaints" you’ve been giving God lately. Write it down, cross it out, and replace it with Jeremiah 1:8: "Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord."
