Expecting Something Out of Nothing

Our online only service this past Sunday for Highpoint AG Church was a powerful call to move from being a spectator to a desperate, expectant participant in what God is doing. Even though we were unable to meet in person here in Royse City due to the inclement weather, we were all encouraged by the service online. Pastor David Barnes continued our journey through the word with a message titled "Expecting Something Out of Nothing," focusing on the life of Gideon which was a replay of his sermon from this past summer, and yet was still applicable even today.
Lessons from the Winepress
We looked at Judges 6, where we find Gideon hiding in a winepress to thresh wheat. Though he saw himself only as a "poor farmer's son" from the weakest clan, God saw a "mighty warrior". The primary takeaway was clear: Where you are from doesn’t matter to God; He sees your purpose, not just your pedigree.
Quality Over Quantity
Pastor Barnes highlighted how God reduced Gideon’s army from thousands down to just 300 men. Through the Fear Test and the Water Test, God demonstrated that less is better than more when it ensures that God receives the glory. God prefers a few dedicated and disciplined disciples over a multitude of uncommitted workers.
Key Takeaways for the Week:
Spiritual Desperation: We were challenged to recognize our need for God as a desperation that only His presence can satisfy.
Worship First: Just as Gideon had to destroy his father’s altar to Baal, we must ensure our personal worship and "house" are in order, giving glory to God alone.
Go in Your Strength: Don't wait for "more" strength; go in the strength you have, knowing God is with you.
Pray with Expectation: We are calling for a harvest in our families—for sons, daughters, and neighbors—believing that God is already at work.
Community and Communion
The service concluded with a meaningful time of Communion, as we joined together online to remember the sacrifice of Jesus. We also took time for "friend therapy," reminding us that we are called to encourage one another as we walk this path together.
