Who We Are

Highpoint AG Church began in 1943 as First Assembly of God Royse City. In 2009, we merged with Calvary Chapel as part of a revitalization of the church. We have renewed vision, energy, and a dream to build up the families of Royse City with the hope of the gospel!

We are a fun, loving, contemporary, spirit-filled, and family focused church! Come check us out! We aim to make everyone feel welcome and special.

Our Dream

What is a vision or a dream? It's more than a slogan or fancy words. It's a preferred future. It's the hope of tomorrow. It's something worth striving for just to see it become reality!

Joel 2:38
It will come about after this
That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind;
And your sons and your daughters will prophesy,
Your old men will have dreams,
Your young men will see visions.

The vision of this house is that High Point serve to build up people by connecting with them through faith, truth, and service.

Connecting through Faith, Truth, and Service.

1. Connecting

We value connecting because it is through relationship that Jesus changes lives. One of the things we say around here is that "Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care." Jesus is still changing lives today, and the primary way he does it is through relationships that break down barriers.

Our dream is that we become a church filled with stories of life change because people cared enough to connect!

2. Faith

We value genuine faith because even a little faith can move mountains. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word. Our church services and programs take many involved volunteers to faithfully and effectively communicate the gospel. Some of us are called to preach. Some are called to teach. Some are called to hold doors open so someone else can hear and discover mountain moving faith!

Our dream is that we become a church filled with volunteers who hold open doors for others and operate with mountain moving faith!

3. Truth

We value truth because without truth we have no hope. Our world is lost and without hope. It is the lies of the enemy that often keep unbelievers and believers alike bound and discouraged. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6)

Our dream is that we become a church that brings the hope of salvation and freedom to people by pointing them to Jesus!

4. Service

We value service because Jesus emptied himself taking the form of a servant. Jesus washed his own disciples feet, and said, "If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet." (John 13:14)

Our dream is that we become a church that puts others first and helps build each other up in Christ by helping others to establish there steps. Our purpose won't be found in our own glory but in elevating others as team builders and servant leaders!

Our Story

In May 1943 after planting a thriving church in Garland, Verena Mae Holcomb longed to see God’s kingdom advance in other places. Almost immediately she turned her attention to Royse City, a community with no full gospel church at the time. She began praying, preaching, and winning people to Christ. Her husband John put up a building, and Verena became our first pastor at First Assembly of God Royse City.

Over the last 80 years, we have been blessed with 19 pastors.

In August 2009, David Barnes merged his church with us and became pastor of Royse City Assembly of God (a merger of First Assembly of God Royse City and Calvary Chapel) and began dreaming of a building on the hill and greater impact in Royse City. At the time, we were a church of just 35 people. On February 28, 2012, the church was renamed High Point with this vision of greater impact in mind.

We were originally located at 816 W. Church Street a dead end street behind the Rustic Meadows subdivision. The church was very difficult to find at that time. Years ago though the church had already purchased 10 acres on a dirt road called Erby Campbell. It was located on top of the tallest hill in Royse City and was located very close to Interstate 30. This small church had big dreams!

We soon began building in the Spring of 2012. As the structure was going up, we experienced high winds and storms. This caused the framing to fall down. In fact, the structure was damaged by weather and had to be rebuilt three different times! Finally, the building went up for the fourth time and was completed!

On August 18, 2013, High Point had our first service in this current building.

Pastor David Barnes was quoted as saying, "We're going to have a good time. There's going to be lots of high fives. It has been a journey."

In 2023, we celebrated 80 years as a church and 10 years in our new building. Together we will fulfill dreams and seek God’s vision! The best is yet to come!
